GARY R. MONTCALM, SR. LOUISIANA TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME 2004 INDUCTEE Gary Montcalm was an avid trapshooter who was well-liked and respected by all who knew him. A strong supporter of a number of smaller clubs in Northern Louisiana, Gary worked tirelessly to help the sport grow by assisting new shooters on many occasions. Gary Montcalm was a key part of the number of gun clubs in which he was a member. He was a member of the Ruston Gun Club, Arcadia Gun Club, Shreveport Gun Club, and a past president of the Pine Hills Gun Club. He was also a member of the Oak Grove Gun Club where he where he played a major role in its operation and growth. During his trapshooting career, Gary was named to the state team several times. In 1978, Gary was elected as state association president and served in that capacity for a total of three separate terms. One of Gary’s greatest trapshooting accomplishments came in October 1974 at the Oak Grove Gun Club where he shot on a squad that set a one-day singles marathon record of 15,000 targets fired upon. Another great accomplishment was achieved in Camden, AR where he broke 200 straight in singles and earned his 27-yard pin. At the 1983 Mississippi State Shoot, he was the Class B Singles champion. At various Louisiana State Shoots, he won several trophies throughout the years including the ATA Handicap Championship in 1984 and the 1997 Singles Championship Parent-Child event in which he proudly participated with his son Gary, Jr. An ATA life member, Gary Montcalm fired 64,800 singles, 49,450 handicap, and 52,650 doubles targets during his career. Gary attended Northeast Louisiana State College and the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He returned to his hometown after service in the Navy to operate Montcalm Music Company. He was also a commercial real estate investor in the area. Gary R. Montcalm, Sr. passed away on October 6, 1999 following open heart bypass surgery. He was 64 years old.
