Mitchell J. Killingsworth LOUISIANA TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME 2006 INDUCTEE Mitch Killingsworth is the “winningest” trapshooter in Louisiana history. From 1978 through 2006, he has won a state ATA championship title in one event or another 27 times. He has also won another 20 class state championships during that time. In addition, he has been a winner at the Southern Grand, Midwestern Grand and the Southwestern Zone shoot taking home a total of 12 trophies. He also holds the unique distinction in La. for twice having a singles average above 99%. His average was .9904 in 1995 and .9916 in 1997. He was the first (and only) shooter in La. to receive the AA-27-AA attainment pin. As of February, 2007, his lifetime target attainment was singles, 66,550; handicap, 53,900; and doubles, 46,950; for a total of 167,400. Mitch was born in 1949, in Dothan, Alabama, and graduated from high school in 1967. He served in the USAF for three years, attended George Wallace Jr. College and the USAF Air University. He completed flight school in 1970 and has been a professional pilot since 1972. He is presently employed as the Director of Aviation & Chief Pilot for WOLCC, based in Baton Rouge, La. Mitch moved to Shreveport, La. in 1975 and started his shooting career in 1977. In addition to his shooting record, Mitch has been very active in the sport. He served as vice-president of the LTA in 1982 and president in 1983. He was a member of the Shreveport Gun Club Board of Directors for 24 years from 1978 to 2001, and during that time he served in a number of positions including president, VP, and Trap Chairman. Currently, he is the La. ATA Delegate and has served in that position for four years. Mitch has been the captain of the state team for 12 of the past 13 years. When it comes to trapshooting (or anything else), Mitch has always got a story to tell. In spite of his abilities as a shooter, he always makes other shooters comfortable with his demeanor. He will always provide good help and advise to a fellow shooter, but only if asked. Louisiana may be a small state when it comes to the number of its trapshooters, but few states have anyone that represents the sport as well as Mitch. LTA Hall of Fame Committee December 9, 2006 |
