NICK HAMILTON LOUISIANA TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME 2003 INDUCTEE “3500 registered targets in one day” Nick Hamilton heard about Pine Hills Gun Club in the early 60’s and decided to see what it was all about. Little did he know the impact it would have on his life and trapshooting in Louisiana? Pine Hills was too far so he and some friends established the Oak Grove Gun Club where shoots were held for over twenty years. Shooters from as far as Atlanta and Ft. Worth competed at the shoots that were held there. Nick registered his first targets in 1963 in Shreveport where he shot with Paul O’Brien, Mercer Tennille, Jack Wiener and Hilly Sailor. He became the ATA Secretary and was instrumental in obtaining a non-profit tax designation for the ATA Hall of Fame. Nick then became involved in the Louisiana Trapshooting Association where he held the offices of Secretary and the ATA Delegate for many years. In 1974, Nick Hamilton, Jerry Vernon, George Perry, Gary Montcalm, and Bill Lafferty had an idea for setting a record. They obtained support from Beretta, Federal Cartridge, Winchester Western, White Flyer and several friends in order to take a crack at it. The five-man squad warmed up with 50 practice targets before shooting registered targets the entire day right up to 10 p.m. When it was all over, each man had registered 3,500 registered targets, in a single day!
