LOUISIANA TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME

2005 INDUCTEE

Laura Curb was born June 22, 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee.  She has made her home in several states in the south central region including Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and of course, Louisiana.  She graduated with a Ph.D. from the Univ. of Oklahoma, with undergraduate and graduate studies at the Univ. of Texas and the Univ. of New Mexico.

Laura worked 20 years as a private law enforcement consultant, was a speech and hearing therapist at the New Mexico School for the Deaf, served as a speaker and consultant to various types of groups for 12 years, and owned and managed a property and casualty insurance agency from 1993 until retirement.  She has served on the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission since 1994 and performed as a professional musician from 1950 through 1968.  Her hobbies and pastimes include cooking, gardening collecting art, reading, listening to classical music, reading about dogs and enjoying the one she has.

Laura began her trapshooting career in 1973.  Since that time her ATA target attainment includes 47,500 singles, 27.600 handicap, and 24,700 doubles.  She has collected her share of winnings and trophies along the way beginning with the Southwest Zone Handicap Open Lady in 1977.  She also won the Southwest Zone Singles Class C champ in 1993.  In Mississippi she won the Governor’s Cup Ladies Singles in 1979, Women’s 100 singles in 1982, Open Women’s singles champ and the Willow Run Ladies A champ in 1983, the State Open Women’s Singles in 1986, The State Open Women’s Singles and the Rex Conrad Singles in 1987, the State Prelim Singles Women’s in 1993 and the State Open Singles Class D in 1994.

At the Arkansas State Shoot, she was the Open Women’s Doubles champ in 1997 and was Women’s Open HAA in 2000.

In Louisiana, Laura was Women’s Singles champ in 1987, 1993, 1995, and 1998.  She was Women’s HAA in 1987, won Women’s Prelim Handicap in 1995, and was Senior Vet Singles and Handicap champ in 2000.

Always helpful, Laura is currently serving as Trap & Field reporter for the LTA.
