Lynda K. Cupples

LOUISIANA TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME

2007 INDUCTEE

Lynda Cupples was born in Shreveport, La., on August 14, 1947.  As a young adult, she attended Byrd High School, and thereafter, business school.  She married William and assumed the role of housewife on their cotton and cattle farm.  Her life has been very active, handling the household chores and taking care of her animals.  She became an accomplished rider of horses and competed in barrel racing at rodeos in the area and competing in state championship events.

Lynda began her trapshooting career several years after her husband became involved in the sport.  She began in 1966 through 1969 and then again from 1977 through 1998.  She rapidly developed into an outstanding performer.  In 1982, she took Women’s runnerup handicap championship at the Midwestern/Southwestern Grand.  She has taken 18 awards at the Southwestern Zone shoots, including three Women’s Singles Championships, three Women’s Handicap Championships, and six Women’s Doubles Championships.  Competing in-state, she has won 38 championship awards, including 11 Women’s Singles Championships, 10 Women’s Handicap Championships, and 9 Women’s Doubles Championships.  In 1981 she was second overall in the nation for Women’s Handicap.  In 1983, she was named to be on the Women’s All-American team.

Lynda and William traveled to many neighboring states including Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, Kansas and Missouri where she won many additional awards.  She also attended the Grand American between 1977 and 1985 and was a devoted shooter and supporter at the Shreveport Gun Club during that time.  The ATA records show her lifetime targets as 34,000 in singles, 27,500 in handicap, and 22,250 in doubles for a total of 83,750.

In 1969, she and William became very interested in bass fishing and spent several years active in that sport before returning to trapshooting in 1977.  Now retired from trapshooting and bass fishing, Lynda still enjoys her rural life.  She takes great pleasure in caring for her animals, sewing and spending time e-mailing friends on the Internet.
